Great deals for the working class

Commentary for the Working Class

Now more than ever, we need a place for the working class to voice what is on their minds. With the economy in the tank and jobs evaporating faster than water on a hot day, we, the Working Class, are facing the biggest challenges in over 50 years. In fact, not since the Great Depression has there been such hardship, such pressure on us just to get by.

In the recent fuss over whether the auto industries should be bailed out, the focus has been as much on the high ranking officials who created the mess as it has on the hundreds of thousands of middle class workers soon to lose their jobs. The situation is not much improved by the labor union heads who think that they really can reject any proposal to lower pay rates and still maintain jobs. The fact is, that give and take must be seen on both sides. The CEOs and other high ranking officials of the auto empires must dramatically slash their salaries while the rank and file workers in the unions must agree to a phased in pay cut which freezes on future increases. Without that, no bailout can work.

As we move into 2009, we’ll come back and take looks at what’s working and what isn’t and offer our commentary then. Here’s to a better new year than the one we are now closing out.
